I’d be interested to introduce Datalore hosted by JetBrains in our company, but due to the European GDPR madness, it is essential for us to be able to control the AWS region in which the machines for our accounts are running. Ideally we should be able to specify the region ourselves, otherwise at least chose between EU / US and so on, like it is possible for YouTrack inCloud.
Is this supported by JetBrains? If not, are there any plans to make it possible?
Unfortunately no, it is not possible to control AWS region for your hosted instance at the moment and there were no such plans, if it helps - we currently use eu-west-1 for all our instances.

Thank you!

Sure that helps, it’s actually great news for us, because it means that we have no problem with GDPR compliance when using hosted Datalore. If you can confirm that this will stay this way, or at least if you will start using other regions, users will have the choice to localise their data, then it’s perfect for us.
The worst thing that can happen is that we happily start using Datalore, and then you decide to migrate all data to North Virginia to save a couple of cents on the infrastructure without telling anyone and/or we would then have to migrate in panic to a different solution… That would be a catastrophe for us.

Well, we are interested in a hosted solution - the enterprise version in as far as I can understand is what we should deploy into our own infrastructure, and then we would have to manage it ourselves, perform the upgrades and so on. We want it exactly like YouTrack inCloud = managed by JetBrains.

No worries, we also chose eu-west-1 region because of GDPR regulations, but we will definitely announce if something will change in this regard.

In general, we would recommend On-premises solution to our enterprise customers: we can conduct a demo, issue a trial license and help you with the installation of you very own instance, but you might need to hire some contractor to maintain such installation.
There is also Enterprise solution hosted by JetBrains - it is targeted for relatively big teams, so we can discuss this option as well if you are interested.
Regarding Datalore cloud instance (datalore.jetbrains.com) - it is currently targeted for individuals and/or small teams, it is also worth noting that Datalore Professional plan is a personal license, so it is not possible to purchase & manage multiple such licenses from a company account, but later this year we’re going to release Datalore Team plan and deliver other improvements so that medium-sized teams could also effectively use hosted Datalore.

This sounds like exactly what we need. Is there any way to get notified when Team plan becomes available? Until then we’ll just try to gather experience with Datalore to see whether this is the right choice for our team…
Does Datalore have a YouTrack project, were one could check existing requests and plans for the future or this forum is the right place to search and ask?
Hi thanks for the information on this so far. Could you clarify a couple of things for me please?
You mentioned all instances are based in the eu-west-1 region. Does this apply to the community and professional versions?
Assuming 1 is true, you mentioned you would publicise any changes to the location of instances. Where would this information be published so that I know where to check for updates?
Yes, there is no differences in this regard for Community and Professional plan customers.
